Medical travel to Mexico: questions and answers.
Get clear answers about care coordination in Mexico, individual costs, language, travel, companions, and follow-up.
Getting started
What does MedXico do?
MedXico coordinates access to independent medical and dental providers in Ciudad Juárez, Mexico, across the border from El Paso, Texas. We help you explore treatment, request an individual quote, and plan the practical details. Clinical decisions belong to you and your treating professional.
Do I need to speak Spanish?
You can contact MedXico in English or Spanish. Ask your coordinator to confirm the language of consultations, consent documents, and discharge instructions with the provider before you travel.
How do I request a consultation or quote?
Use the contact form to tell us your treatment interest, city and preferred language. The first form asks for contact details, not medical records. Your coordinator can explain the next steps and how to share clinical information securely if an assessment is needed.
Is MedXico a hospital or a medical provider?
MedXico coordinates care and travel planning; independent licensed professionals provide diagnosis and treatment. Ask for the name of your treating professional and the exact facility before agreeing to a procedure. Your clinical questions and treatment decisions belong with that professional.
Prices, insurance and financing
How much will my treatment cost?
Your cost depends on the procedure, the provider, and your individual needs. Request a written, itemized quote that separates clinical fees, tests, travel, accommodation, and follow-up. Confirm the currency, quote validity and costs of possible changes with the provider.
Does a treatment quote include travel and a hotel?
Not automatically. Ask for separate line items for clinical care, transport, accommodation, meals, companion expenses and follow-up. Confirm the number of nights and visits, what is optional, and how changes to the clinical plan affect the total.
Can I finance medical treatment in Mexico?
Financing depends on the lender, applicant, treating provider and destination. Before applying, confirm that the specific treatment in Mexico is eligible, who receives payment, the annual percentage rate, fees and repayment terms. A lender logo or a prequalification does not guarantee approval or acceptance by the provider.
Will my insurance cover care in Mexico?
Ask your insurer for written confirmation before booking planned care abroad. Check the exact procedure and provider, prior authorization, reimbursement rules, exclusions and coverage for complications. Do not assume travel insurance covers an elective procedure or its aftercare.
What should I confirm before paying a deposit?
Get the provider identity, currency, itemized quote, payment recipient and cancellation terms in writing. Ask what happens if the assessment changes your eligibility, you need more treatment, or your travel dates move. Keep a receipt and avoid booking nonrefundable travel before the clinical plan is agreed.
Travel, hotels and companions
Can I bring someone with me?
Tell your coordinator if a companion will travel with you. Confirm accommodation, transport space, visiting rules, and whether a responsible adult must stay with you after treatment. Companion costs should appear separately in your quote.
Should I fly to El Paso or directly to Ciudad Juárez?
Compare both routes with your coordinator. El Paso can provide a domestic-flight option for U.S. travelers, followed by a land crossing into Mexico. A direct arrival in Ciudad Juárez avoids that initial crossing. Your documents, appointment location, mobility needs and return plan should guide the choice.
Can MedXico help me plan accommodation?
Discuss your stay with the coordination team before booking. Confirm the hotel or recovery facility, proximity to appointments, accessible rooms, companion arrangements, transport and cancellation policy. A hotel is not a nursing facility; any clinical support must be arranged separately with qualified professionals.
Are border transfers included, and how long does crossing take?
Ask whether your written quote includes pickup and border transfers, who operates them, and where you will meet. Crossing times vary by port, documentation, traffic and inspections. Allow time for delays and verify the entry requirements for your citizenship and immigration status.
Safety and aftercare
Is medical travel to Ciudad Juárez safe?
No destination or procedure is risk-free. Review current travel advisories, verify your clinician and facility, and agree on an aftercare and emergency plan before booking. Coordinated transport does not eliminate travel or medical risks.
What happens after I return home?
Before treatment, establish who handles follow-up, how to reach the treating team, what to do for complications, and which costs are your responsibility. Arrange local follow-up when appropriate and obtain copies of your medical records.
How do I check a doctor or hospital before booking?
Request the clinician’s full name, professional registration, relevant specialty certification and the treatment facility. Verify these with the appropriate official registries and ask about experience with your procedure, hospital privileges and emergency arrangements. A testimonial is not a substitute for checking credentials.
When can I travel home after treatment?
Your treating clinician should decide when and how you can travel based on your procedure and recovery. Before booking, discuss follow-up appointments, walking or mobility assistance, a travel companion and a contingency for extra nights. Someone else’s recovery timeline is not a safe timetable for your trip.
