Can a week-by-week schedule predict your recovery?
No generic calendar can establish when you are ready to travel or resume activities. Your health, operation and progress determine your plan. Ask the surgeon and therapist for individual milestones and how those will be reassessed.
Before surgery: prepare your surroundings
Discuss stairs, bathroom access, suitable seating and getting in and out of transport. Arrange a companion and any recommended walking aids. Confirm the recovery location with the clinical team before reserving accommodation.
After discharge: understand the instructions
Obtain written guidance on movement, wound care, medication and rehabilitation. Ask which restrictions apply to your operation and which symptoms need urgent assessment. Keep the treating team’s clinical contact available.
During rehabilitation: plan continuity
Identify who will provide physical therapy and review your progress after returning home. Arrange records transfer and follow-up before leaving Mexico. Ask how setbacks, new pain or difficulties with daily activities should be assessed.
Before returning home: confirm travel clearance
Discuss the complete drive or flight, including border queues, transfers and luggage. Clearance to leave hospital is not automatically clearance for a long journey. Request the operative report and implant details and confirm who handles further clinical questions.
