Before surgery: make the recovery plan

Arrange help at home, physical therapy, transport, and any mobility equipment your team recommends. Ask how wound reviews, medication questions, and urgent concerns will be handled after you leave Mexico.

Early recovery: follow the discharge plan

Your own instructions determine activity, wound care, medication, and exercises. Keep the team’s contact details and ask which symptoms require urgent care. A generic week-by-week schedule cannot establish when you are ready to travel.

The following weeks: reassess progress

Physical therapy and follow-up should be adjusted to your progress. Discuss walking aids, stairs, sleep, work, and daily activities. Contact the treating team about unexpected setbacks rather than comparing yourself with another patient’s timeline.

Returning to regular activity

Ask the clinician and therapist to set specific milestones for driving, work, longer travel, and exercise. Obtain copies of your operative report and implant details for future care.
